We are constantly exposed to social networks. And despite all the benefits that these types of platforms offer us, the truth is that they are not free of risks. Toxic behaviors and attitudes are, unfortunately, one of the protagonists when we browse the Internet. That is why the iPhone has settings that allow us to regulate the time of use, in order to dose the time we spend on platforms. In this way, we will be adopting healthier attitudes when we browse, regarding technology and we will be minimizing our exposure to the toxicity of social networks.
iPhone usage times help limit toxicity
One of Apple’s fundamental pillars is the responsible use of technology. Over time, their devices have incorporated different ways in which users can have healthier attitudes.
Browsing the internet and using social networks are things that we all do in our daily lives. Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, TikTok, X, Reddit or SnapChat are just some of the most popular names. But the truth is that there is an immeasurable universe of services, in which, unfortunately, many types of toxic behavior are carried out.
Therefore, it is important that we know how to regulate the use of this type of app, because disconnecting it is also very important. And the iPhone has some very interesting settings. To do this, we will have to follow the route Settings > Usage time > App usage limits.
In this section we are going to have the first option: App use limits. We have to flip the switch, first of all. Then we have to select the Add limit option.
A contextual menu of application categories will open, in which we must select the Social section. The iPhone already categorizes them automatically, so we will simply have to select those that interest us the most.
Once we have them, we have to say the maximum time of use: hours and days. When we have finished, click on the Add button. When we have done this, and we exceed the time of use of the app, the iPhone will notify us that we have exceeded the threshold that we had marked.
The importance of limiting toxicity on social networks
We can control those aspects that are in our control. The social media universe is gigantic, with millions of things to pay attention to. And if we talk about toxic behaviors, a study carried out by Cyberghost has determined that social networks have the following behaviors that are considered toxic:
- Fake news
- Scams
- Unrealistic expectations due to physical appearance
- Trolls
- Seeking attention
- Dangerous health comparisons
- Normalization of risk behaviors
- Bullying
- Discrimination
Being aware of the content that reaches us through social networks is a very important step, to be able to determine what type of toxicity we are exposed to when we browse.
Many times, all this ends up reaching us in an underlying way, through camouflaged speeches. And if we are re-learning the technique of browsing the Internet and social networks, a very good first way to do it is by controlling the time we spend exposed.
