Superman: Legacy It is DC’s great bet to restart its cinematic universe with the help of James Gunn. Details about the film are scarce, at least in terms of plot, but the director and screenwriter took the opportunity to deny one of the strongest rumors in circulation.
In the last few hours, the filmmaker shared a photo on his Instagram account where multiple references to the Man of Steel could be seen in the production office of Superman: Legacy. In the comments, Gunn answered some questions from his followers and ruled out one of the most important speculations about the film’s script: that part of the actions will take place in the Middle East.
“Please tell us that the rumor of the bow [argumental] about a ‘terrorist threat in the Middle East’ is not true,” a fan mentions. Without hesitation, James Gunn responds: “It isn’t true”. Although the director did not provide more details, he put an end to the rumor that the central conflict could break out outside of Metropolis.
Last August a version began to circulate that, supposedly, Superman: Legacy would introduce Queen Bee as one of the antagonists. Thanks to this, part of the events would happen in Bialya. This fictional Middle Eastern nation has a lot of history in DC comics and is, in fact, the home of the aforementioned villain.
Let us keep in mind that the screenwriter and director had already confirmed that Superman: Legacy It wouldn’t be an origin story. Therefore, the possibility that the central conflict was far from the conventional plots of the Man of Steel did not seem far-fetched. Especially considering that James Gunn is betting on giving the film one more tone comedian and less darkcompared to the productions of Snyderverse.
Superman: Legacy would not leave Metropolis
James Gunn’s comments seem to establish that the most important plot line of Superman: Legacy will not leave Metropolis. That said, it’s unclear if Queen Bee’s possible appearance has been completely ruled out, or if there’s still a chance of seeing her in the film.
Another rumor of Superman: Legacy which gained traction with Gunn’s recent Instagram post, relates to the design of Superman’s suit. The images seen in the photo show the superhero wearing his original clothing, with the iconic red underwear. This has triggered endless comments on social networks, considering that recent adaptations—both in film and on TV—have omitted that piece of clothing.
The last time we saw Superman wearing red underwear in a production live-action it was in Superman Returns (2006), by Brandon Routh. Prior to that, it was in the saga starring Christopher Reeve. Both Henry Cavill’s version in the Snyderverselike Tyler Hoechlin’s in Superman & Lois They wore a completely blue suit. Will David Corenswet bring back the original Son of Krypton aesthetic to the big screen? We will see.
Superman: Legacy is already in production, with a view to a premiere on July 11, 2025. In addition to the aforementioned Corenswet in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, it is confirmed Rachel Brosnahan Like Lois Lane. Although the rest of the cast is not completely defined, mention is made of Nathan Fillion like Guy Gardner, Isabella Merced like Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi like Mr. Terrific.
