A function that prioritizes the connection of your device
The function has been available in the app for some time now, and its objective is nothing more than to give connection priority to a maximum of two home devices. In this way, in the event that there are multiple devices connected to the network, the connection would be in charge of offering a stable and uninterrupted experience to those devices that the user wants to prioritize.
This option does not decrease latency unfortunately, since that depends on the network infrastructure itself. However, dedicate a percentage of bandwidth constant to the device so that while it is connected it has the greatest possible stability. In this way, Movistar’s ‘gaming mode’ would work in a very similar way to a QoS in a router (Quality of Service).
The requirement to activate this service is to have the Movistar Smart WiFi router and be connected to the 5 GHz network of your router. This is the one that begins with ‘MOVISTAR_PLUS_XXXX’.
If you meet the requirements, all you have to do is download the Movistar Smart WiFi app for your mobile device and enter with your Mi Movistar credentials. Once this is done, you must select the device you want to prioritize to activate gaming mode. This must be connected to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, and not 2.4 GHz or Ethernet, since the technology is not compatible in this way.
Once we have clicked on the device among all those connected in the Smart WiFi app, we go to the tab ‘Smart Wi-Fi Services’ and select the option ‘Manage gaming’. When we are in the gaming mode menu, all you have to do is select the option ‘Prioritize’. Afterwards, we will only have to wait a few seconds and then a message will appear indicating that the device will stop prioritizing automatically at 4:00 AM.
The function also offers a quick way to open ports of well-known gaming services. In this way, you will make sure that all the games that need an online connection work correctly. In this way, the gaming mode is compatible with Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Stadia, xCloud, PlayStation Now, Grand Theft Auto V or Fortnite. To activate the ports of each service, it is enough to activate the switch of each one of them.
