WhatsApp has just confirmed the arrival of a welcome new option to combat spam. This will allow you to block an unknown contact without having to open their messages. All you have to do is long press the notification to blacklist it.
There has been a lot of news around WhatsApp in recent weeks as backups will now eat up Google Drive storage space. In terms of features, the application has notably been enhanced with welcome practical new features to make the user experience more fluid. After the arrival of pinned messages, Meta has just confirmed the arrival of a new switch allowing unwanted users to be blocked more quickly.
Now you can block senders without having to open their messages. When a spam message appears on your smartphone, you no longer need to open it to block the sender. Simply long-press the notification to access several options including the ability to immediately block the disturbing user. Once blacklisted, it will no longer bother you with spam, at least via this number.

WhatsApp: a faster way to block annoying users
This update saves you time from having to open the app to block a pesky sender. Indeed, instead of having to navigate through the submenus, you will only have to activate the “Block” button in the notification bubble. It is also possible to report the annoying contact to the application before blacklisting it.
As a reminder, here is the classic way to block a person on WhatsApp :
- Operate Options > Settings > Account > Privacy > Blocked > Add new
- Select the contact you want to filter.
- Click Block.
- Alternatively, open the chat with the contact in question.
- Click on Options > View contact > Block > Block.
Blocked contacts will no longer be able to call or send you messages. And they will no longer see your online presence. Still on the subject of confidentiality, WhatsApp now offers you the option to activate silent mode. This allows you to mute unknown numbers. These will still appear in your call log but your phone will not ring. A practical tool in the face of incessant commercial canvassing.
- Blocking a contact on WhatsApp just got easier.
- It is now possible to execute directly from the notification bubble of the received message.
