Last Friday, two civil guards who were carrying out an operation against a team of drug traffickers, died in the port of Barbate (Cádiz) when they were run over by the drug boat they were chasing. Both agents were aboard a zodiaca small boat of just 5 meters, while the other boat was 13 meters in length.
It is an abysmal difference not only in size, but also in power. The zodiac in which the two civil guards who died in the port of Barbate were on board is barely 500 kilos and has a power of up to 90 HP. The traffickers’ drug boat, on the other hand, has three engines. up to 900 horsepower and has a weight of 5,000 kilos.
Even if the drug traffickers were not at the maximum power allowed, they would have successfully run over the patrol vehicle in which the two civil guards were located. However, Why did they go with a zodiac instead of other more similar means to confront a drug boat of these dimensions?
Apparently, the Civil Guard has three patrol boats in the port of Cádiz. None of them could be used in the port of Barbate since they were damaged.as confirmed by the Unified Civil Guard Association (AUGC) to different media, who calls for the resignation of Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Minister of the Interior.

In total, the death of the two civil guards in the port of Barbate has left 8 detainees. Three of them were pilots of the drug boat, and they are accused of two crimes of homicide and serious injuries to law enforcement agents. Two other detainees were waiting for the drug boat to pick them up, and are accused of the crime of concealment and serious resistance to law enforcement agents.
