In the absence of official confirmation, it is believed that spring 2024 could be key for the update of Apple’s different iPad models. Therefore, below we reflect on what are the necessary and possible improvements that the iPar Air should incorporate if it receives an update this year.
If what the rumors say is true, Cupertino would be thinking about revealing the news of the next iPad models. The iPad Air, specifically, is one of my favorite models due to its versatility and power.
iPad Air 5 vs everything new that the iPad Air 6 could incorporate in 2024
Recalling the launch of the current model in spring 2022, Apple surprised the world with a series of important improvements to the iPad Air. Since the integration of the powerful M1 chip, until the incorporation of 5G connectivity in the model that accepts cellular data. Plus, with an upgraded 12-megapixel front camera, support for Center Stageport USB-C significantly faster and an excellent quality screen. The changes to the iPad Air 5 marked a before and after in the iPad Air timeline.
With an eye to the future, Apple is surely not content with the success of the 2022 iPad Air 5 and seeks to further expand the frontiers of its innovation. It is believed that two new iPad Air models could see the light of day in the first half of the year, incorporating for the first time two screen size options with 10.9 and 12.9 inch versions. LCD screens that would not yet see the transition to the mini-LED that has been talked about so much.
Although the addition of a new screen size could be good news for some users who are iPad lovers but feel that they lack a screen, this could also mean a price increase. I started the article by commenting that the iPad Air is one of my favorites because of its versatility. The device achieves this versatility thanks to being light, portable and powerful. Personally, I do not think that an increase in screen is necessary, we will see how the iPad Air range ends up being in this sense.
From the M1 to the M2 chip, a meaningful change
I find the change in screen sizes on the iPad Air a bit dubious. However, there is no doubt that the iPad Air should incorporate the M2 chip in its next generation, promising a revolution in performance and energy efficiency. In my opinion, the Air and Mini range should incorporate the M2 chips, while the Pro range would be the one that would have the privilege of incorporating the newly arrived and super powerful M3 chip.
The power that Apple Silicon chips offer to the iPad makes their comparison with MacBooks inevitable, making them direct competitors of the MacBook in some specific use cases.
When could the iPad Air 6 see the light of day?
As we said, there is still no confirmation from Apple. However, taking into account previous launches, rumors suggest that the device could be launched during the first quarter of 2024, everything indicates that the new generation of iPad Air could be ready for spring. Traditionally, March has been a key month for Apple announcements, although June is not ruled out, during the celebration of the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
