We travel to Ancient Rome to review one of the best series in history
There are series very similar to Game of Thrones on practically all platforms. However, this did not seek inspiration in the series and the novels of the English author, but rather his story really served as inspiration. Thus, we are going to travel to the heart of the Roman world to try to reveal a series that has undeniable artistic value while combining it with a rigor that will allow us to better understand the world in which these characters lived without having to delve into the classic sources.
A truly striking series
1st century BC C. the Republic of Rome has spread throughout Greece, Africa, Hispania and has just completed the conquest of Gaul. There, a Roman general and consul, Gaius Julius Caesar, would become one of the most relevant figures in the final stages of this period of government. On the side of the popularCaesar is going to use populism to achieve unparalleled power that until now no consul or dictator had achieved.
We talk about Rome, a series that talks about ambition, the desire for power and how this marked the future of a State that was beginning to take shape as the largest continental empire that has ever existed in Europe. Therefore, it is a truly ambitious series that has a round ending and that allows us to understand the world in which it is set in a much more interesting way.
The reasons to see it are the following:
- The characters are really good and realistic, all with their edges and difficulties.
- Although it is a very simple series to follow, the truth is that it also combines important historical rigor.
- Based on classical sources but adapted to modern times, the series recreates the rise of Caesar, his subsequent fall and the fate of his godson.
- Overall, the recreations are absolutely flawless.
- The historical figures are also very well treated, but those who are not are also really well treated.
- In general, we are facing one of the best series in history for all those who love the Roman Empire.
Unfortunately, the recording studios where the film was filmed burned down in a tragic accident. They had deposited a huge sum of money in them, making the investment impossible to recover. For this disastrous reason, those in charge of making the series had to cancel it in its second season, although has a perfect conclusion which I won’t spoil for those who know absolutely nothing about the plot.
In short, it is a splendid series to delve into the turbulent history of the Roman Republic and also to enjoy an environment in which families, power struggles and personal interests took precedence above all else. It is in this sense that It looks a lot like Game of Thronesand George RR Martin was powerfully inspired by the history of Europe, Asia and Africa to base the characters of his novel on them.
The series is part of the HBO catalog, so it is worth having a subscription just to watch it. However, we are looking at a catalog of great quality with series of the size of the own Game of Thrones either Succession.
