According to the latest official data, Spain has almost 3.4 million self-employed. Every day it is more common for young and technological companies, but also established or more conservative companies, to incorporate into their work dynamics professionals who work autonomously, or freelance, with specialized knowledge. However, the situation and the profile of a freelance worker have been changing. And now we can distinguish a new profile: the “freeworkers”.

The freeworkers have an average experience of more than three years, have a university education and their career path begins in companies of between 50 and 250 employees (until they decide to change). Although for them, work is no longer
nor will it be the same: freeworkers are talent that comes out of the wheel of traditional work with a broad professional background that gets involved with projects in different companies to which they provide very specific value and with which they connect on a purpose and challenge level.

Shakers, the platform in charge of connecting the best talent with projects of large companies, has analyzed the profile of its community to better understand what the talent of the present and future is like. This is the free worker.

How are your projects?

The freeworkers register an average income per project (each project has an average duration of almost 3 months) of 11,744.28 euros, but depending on the area of activity, the average goes down or up: for marketing are about 7,000 euros, while for developingthe value increases up to 17,000 euros on average.

The best talents develop between 3 and 6 projects a year and the average duration of the projects is 74.6 days. Many projects occur in parallel so that the income is multiplied and reaches figures much higher than those of a regular salary as employees in a company directly. The time is not valued so much, but the expertise.

How are the freeworkers?

Shakers analyzes their profiles just before entering the platform: all talents go through a qualification process. The idea is to be clear about what these talents are like, because for us that is key when making a ‘match’ with certain companies and it gives us a lot of insights about the way they work, but also about the way they see the life. This balance is the great novelty ”, explains Jaime Castillo, co-founder of Shakers.

The predominant personality in the freework community is what they call ‘Marie Curie’, which means: conscious, creative, compliant, correct, precise, perfectionist. His most common interests are: technology, travel and entertainment. In addition, other notable ones such as sports, nature and reading. These value flexible hours and confidence above other factors such as salary or stability. Most work from home.

How is the best talent (the one who has the best projects)?

The best talent has been registered on the platform for more than 6 months and has more than two projects in their portfolio, provides a lot of information in their profile, has experience as a freeworker for more than 3 yearsis related to the theme of
technology and has participated in projects that extend beyond his area.

Many have been managers or have participated in consulting areas. They all enjoy prestige and expertise in their area of work.

How do they relate to companies?

The talents write to the client through the application chat on the platform and are proactive because they start the conversation with potential clients. On average, companies talk to more than 3 talents before choosing a candidate for a project. The platform’s email or chat are the preferred communication tools. “Our objective with the platform is to facilitate communication between freeworkers and companies as much as possible so that projects can be worked on much more quickly.”, explains Jaime Castillo, co-founder of Shakers.

The freeworker will take over from the conventional worker: his agility is unbeatable and he provides a critical vision of the project, much needed to grow and do it intelligently and strategically. The platform now has some 3,400 registered freeworkers, but they are forecast to grow by 50% in 023 due to the high demand for qualified profiles and the tendency of companies to subcontract.

Barcelona City Council has launched a challenge for companies, startups, universities and innovation centers to present urban solutions that have as objective reduce motorcycle-related accidents. The chosen projects, which will be applied in the city, are part of the Barcelona Innova Lab Mobility initiative that promotes pilot tests to improve mobility.

Barcelona is one of the European cities with a greater presence of motorcycles and mopeds which represent 33% of the total census of vehicles, and motorcycle drivers account for 86% of the seriously injured, according to the balance of road accidents for the first half of 2022. With the aim of reducing accidents and increasing road safety in the city, these entities have launched this initiative to find and apply innovative solutions on the streets of the city, with the collaboration of the Tomorrow.Mobility show organized by Fira and the EIT Urban Mobility (European Union initiative).

The challenge, launched internationally, counts with an economic endowment of 200,000 euros, which will correspond to a maximum of 80% of the total amount of the winning solutions. The projects can be aimed at resolving the accident rate from behavioral innovation, that is, with solutions related to driving habits, and from technological innovation.

The execution time of the selected proposals is 18 months, of which the pilot phase must be a minimum of six. The proposals must be applicable in a real environment in the short term and must define, in this sense, its deployment space. In addition, it must achieve quantifiable results in relation to the safety of motorcyclists and third parties, which are lasting over time. Its innovative and differential component will also be valued both in the methodologies and resources used and in its execution.

This call is aimed at companies, startups, universities, research centers, technology centers, associations and foundations that have until next March 1 to present their projects. A committee of experts will assess the technical quality of the works presented and will choose the winning solutions that could be applied in Barcelona during that same year. The projects will have international projection with their participation in the next edition of Tomorrow.Mobility, which will be held next November together with the Smart City Expo World Congress at Fira de Barcelona.

Microsoft Teams integrates into Elgato Stream Deck

Elgato Stream Deck

The Elgato Stream Deck is a very interesting peripheral that we had the opportunity to analyze at the time, and that allows you to create different shortcuts and functions that will be associated to each of the available buttons. It allows you to create different usage profiles, and we can switch between them in a very simple way.

For example, we can assign to a button that directly opens a web page, to run a specific application, to perform a specific action and we can also set specific commands and download completely free applications. It is a very interesting solution, especially for professionals who are dedicated to content creation and streaming.

The point is that the Redmond giant has released an official plugin that allows you to integrate an Elgato Stream Deck device with Microsoft Teams. This plugin was announced by the American company earlier this week, but it was officially launched yesterday. The installation process is quite simple, but we can find more information in the official Microsoft forums.

Once installed, we can use the Elgato Stream Deck to access shortcuts and specific functions that will improve our user experience with Microsoft Teams. Thus, for example, we can blur the background in a video call by pressing a button, and we can also assign other specific functions such as raising and lowering our hand, muting ourselves, recording, and even to show live reactions during meetings.

This new plugin enhances the value of the Elgato Stream Deck, making it a very interesting solution for those who work remotely and have to participate in frequent video calls and events. Obviously it is still an excellent option for content creators and streaming professionals as well. I remind you that it is available in different versions, and that the standard MK.2 model with 15 buttons is priced at €149.99.
