Many Android users who have switched to iOS still use Google Maps to record the car’s location. However, iPhone has a special function to detect it automatically. You will have to activate it yourselfbut we assure you that the accuracy is abysmal.
How to activate
The function is only available on iPhone 6 or later phones, as long as they have an operating system superior to iOS 10. You will use it directly with Maps, where a marker will automatically appear, even if you disconnect Bluetooth or CarPlay. However, before you start you will have to give location access and activate important locations.
To activate the location of where the car is parked you have to do the following steps:
- Go to Settings and tap on the Maps app.
- Go to Show parked car and activate the function.
If you want to receive notifications from your car, you will have to activate them from the general settings of “Notifications > Maps”. There you can choose the type of alert you want to receive. This way you will automatically receive a message that the parking has been saved so you don’t have to worry about whether the phone has done it for you.
In case you want to delete that location, long press the bookmark and tap on “delete car”. This way you will avoid having several saved locations and it won’t be so much trouble when you move the car around. If you want to deactivate the function permanently, follow the same activation steps and uncheck “Show parked car”.
How to get to the parked car
If you remove your iPhone from CarPlay or turn off Bluetooth in your car and leave your car, your phone automatically places a marker on Maps. If you want to find it, you will have to select “Parked car” or ask Siri to find it for you. If you want to get to it easily, the steps are very simple:
- In Maps, look for Parked Car and tap Route to navigate to the car. You can choose if you want to go on foot or in some other vehicle.
But what happens if you can’t find the parked car? It may be that it did not register as it should because you did not have the iPhone linked to CarPlay or the car’s Bluetooth. If your car is old and does not have a Bluetooth dongle, this function may not work. That is why you should always activate the location beforehand and give it access to the “important places”.
Also, keep in mind that your car does not appear in the location that you usually park, like your house or the place where you work. So you will have to make it easy for the iPhone to register it this way. As you can see, it is a very simple trick, but it will prevent you from using Google Maps if you don’t want to install another browser. You won’t even have to leave manual markers every time you get out of the car.
