Tesla is currently rolling out a major holiday update to the Model S, 3, X and Y. This includes Steam as a beta version that will make all Steam Deck verified games available. Apple Music, Zoom, a new mahjong and a new dog mode are also moving in as new apps. There are also updates in other areas.

Steam for Model S and X with RDNA 2

The current update runs under the version number 2022.44.25.1. Steam is distributed worldwide for all Model S and X from 2022 and newer with at least 16 GB RAM and requires premium connectivity for 9.99 euros per month. After the update, users can access Steam via the app launcher in the arcade area, and cloud synchronization of the service is also supported. A preselection that only allows games verified for the Steam Deck on the infotainment system with AMD RDNA 2 hardware should ensure that the games run smoothly in the car. According to Elon Musk can be played in the car with a keyboard and mouse in addition to the controller.

Apple Music available in Tesla vehicles

Although Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported, Tesla does offer apps from both providers. A new addition for all users worldwide is Apple Music, which provides access to more than 100 million songs and over 30,000 playlists. Apple Music can also be found in the app launcher and requires premium connectivity for music streaming. As with other vehicle manufacturers, a QR code on the infotainment display must be photographed with the smartphone after the first start, whereupon the login with the Apple ID is triggered.

Some updates not for Germany

Like the release notes on Not a Tesla app As can be seen, the Zoom meeting app can be used via the interior camera after the update. The feature for cars from MCU 3 should not be relevant for the German market. Video calls are also only possible when parked, while zooming only changes to the sound while driving. As a revised app, Mahjong can be found in Tesla vehicles, but again not in Germany. The game comes with a new design, revised animations and new audio effects.

The revised dog mode is relevant for the German market. In dog or guard mode (sentry), the smartphone app can now be used to access the interior camera for a live view. The function requires premium connectivity and app version 4.15.0 and is available in all Teslas from hardware 3.

Turn signals turn off after turning

The new worldwide features of the software update include media controls positioned closer to the driver on the central display, support for garage door openers from the company myQ, a three-stage adjustable fan speed in automatic mode of the air conditioning, turn signals that turn off automatically, the search for Contacts on devices connected via Bluetooth, controllers connected via Bluetooth, such as the PlayStation 5, track mode for the Model Y, optional deactivation of the home’s automatic extending door handles and unlocking of the doors, control of the rear screen on Model S and X via the front screen, a prompt for confirmation when transferring phone calls from a Bluetooth device to the car, a slightly revised view when navigating, Thai as a new language for the infotainment system, a battery temperature display, an extended service mode for corresponding service providers , a Si Heating or seat air conditioning in automatic mode with manual air conditioning at the same time and a virtual SOS button on the display for cars with a physical SOS switch.

Not approved for Germany are the “Rainbow Road” in the driver’s display when the autopilot is activated, the light show of the headlights, which can also be performed with several vehicles as an “orchestra”, whereby “Auld Lang Syne” is offered especially for New Year, a revised belt tensioner for Tesla Vision, an overhauled Energy app, and numerous minor changes to the Full Self-Driving Beta v11.

Barcelona City Council has launched a challenge for companies, startups, universities and innovation centers to present urban solutions that have as objective reduce motorcycle-related accidents. The chosen projects, which will be applied in the city, are part of the Barcelona Innova Lab Mobility initiative that promotes pilot tests to improve mobility.

Barcelona is one of the European cities with a greater presence of motorcycles and mopeds which represent 33% of the total census of vehicles, and motorcycle drivers account for 86% of the seriously injured, according to the balance of road accidents for the first half of 2022. With the aim of reducing accidents and increasing road safety in the city, these entities have launched this initiative to find and apply innovative solutions on the streets of the city, with the collaboration of the Tomorrow.Mobility show organized by Fira and the EIT Urban Mobility (European Union initiative).

The challenge, launched internationally, counts with an economic endowment of 200,000 euros, which will correspond to a maximum of 80% of the total amount of the winning solutions. The projects can be aimed at resolving the accident rate from behavioral innovation, that is, with solutions related to driving habits, and from technological innovation.

The execution time of the selected proposals is 18 months, of which the pilot phase must be a minimum of six. The proposals must be applicable in a real environment in the short term and must define, in this sense, its deployment space. In addition, it must achieve quantifiable results in relation to the safety of motorcyclists and third parties, which are lasting over time. Its innovative and differential component will also be valued both in the methodologies and resources used and in its execution.

This call is aimed at companies, startups, universities, research centers, technology centers, associations and foundations that have until next March 1 to present their projects. A committee of experts will assess the technical quality of the works presented and will choose the winning solutions that could be applied in Barcelona during that same year. The projects will have international projection with their participation in the next edition of Tomorrow.Mobility, which will be held next November together with the Smart City Expo World Congress at Fira de Barcelona.

Microsoft Teams integrates into Elgato Stream Deck

Elgato Stream Deck

The Elgato Stream Deck is a very interesting peripheral that we had the opportunity to analyze at the time, and that allows you to create different shortcuts and functions that will be associated to each of the available buttons. It allows you to create different usage profiles, and we can switch between them in a very simple way.

For example, we can assign to a button that directly opens a web page, to run a specific application, to perform a specific action and we can also set specific commands and download completely free applications. It is a very interesting solution, especially for professionals who are dedicated to content creation and streaming.

The point is that the Redmond giant has released an official plugin that allows you to integrate an Elgato Stream Deck device with Microsoft Teams. This plugin was announced by the American company earlier this week, but it was officially launched yesterday. The installation process is quite simple, but we can find more information in the official Microsoft forums.

Once installed, we can use the Elgato Stream Deck to access shortcuts and specific functions that will improve our user experience with Microsoft Teams. Thus, for example, we can blur the background in a video call by pressing a button, and we can also assign other specific functions such as raising and lowering our hand, muting ourselves, recording, and even to show live reactions during meetings.

This new plugin enhances the value of the Elgato Stream Deck, making it a very interesting solution for those who work remotely and have to participate in frequent video calls and events. Obviously it is still an excellent option for content creators and streaming professionals as well. I remind you that it is available in different versions, and that the standard MK.2 model with 15 buttons is priced at €149.99.
