YouTuber Jon Freeman discovered that several Acemagic brand mini PC models, such as the AD08, AD15 and S1, contain files marked by Windows Defender as malware
Malware is one of the great evils that threaten the devices we use to access the Internet and although the most affected by this type of malicious software are usually smartphones, since they are more accessible and are permanently connected to the Internet, our computers too are at risk of being infected with this type of virus.
In this sense, what is not common is for a PC manufacturer to install spyware on its computers, but it is something that happens, since we have just learned that it has been discovered pre-installed spyware on some models of mini PCs from a brand that is very popular on Amazon.
Some Acemagic brand mini PCs are infected with spyware
As confirmed by TechSpot, the well-known YouTuber Jon Freeman, creator of the channel ‘The Net Guy Reviews’, discovered, after analyzing the Acemagic AD08 mini PC, that this compact computer contained files flagged by Windows Defender as malware.
Likewise, Freeman assures that other mini PC models of the same brand such as the AD15 or the S1 that we were able to analyze recently, also They have this same malware pre-installed.
As Freeman himself explains in the video that we leave you above these lines, he became aware of this security hole when the Windows antivirus detected Suspicious files on mini PC SSD recovery partition and subsequently, upon further inspection, found two problematic executables, ENDEV and EDIDEV, hidden in the “OsVer” subfolder within the Windows installation folder, both of which are part of the well-known Bladabindi and Redline spyware families.
The fact that these malicious files are on the recovery partition causes them to be reinstalled, although clean the C:/ drive of the PC and reinstall Windows of the same using the “Restore” function.
But if you have one of these mini PCs, don’t worry because Acemagic assured that this problem It only affected the first batches of AD08, AD15 and S1 and that now the problem has already been resolved in the current models, something that Freeman himself has been able to corroborate first-hand after purchasing an Acemagic AD08 through Amazon and verify that it no longer included spyware.
