Despite the fact that Spanish SMEs are increasingly aware of the importance of investing in technology to be more efficient and competitive, their IT investment in 2023 will not be as optimal as would be desirable.
54.6% of Spanish SMEs has defined a digital strategy and 78.6% are applying it. In fact, 30% point out that they are quite or very affected by technological changes and 47.4% point out that they have already taken steps to go digital.
According to these data from the I Hiscox Report on SMEs and the self-employed in Spain, small and medium-sized companies in our country recognize the importance of technology for their businesses and to remain competitive.
However, this is not reflected in the investment that they carry out in their digitization, as well as to keep themselves updated. 50% of Spanish SMEs plan to invest only 10%, or less, of their annual budget for digitization in 2023.
23.4% of SMEs that have not invested in digitization will do so from 2023
Despite this low investment in IT, the report highlights that Spanish SMEs are increasingly aware of the importance of digitization. And it is that 23.4% of SMEs that until now have not invested in their digitization, will start to do so from next year.
Cyber resilience, objective of Spanish SMEs
Another of the positive notes that emerges from the Hiscox report is the forecast that the percentage of SMEs that dedicate between 20% and 50% of the IT budget that they have in their digitization. Specifically, estimates suggest that this investment will grow from 16.5% of its budget this year, to 32.9% next 2023.
For the general director of Hiscox Iberia, David Heras, this 2022 has been a difficult year for many companies and, especially, for the SME segment with the appearance of new risks that have jeopardized the viability of these companies. However, these companies continue to bet on technology to adapt to changes and remain cyber-resilient.
“Despite the fact that there is still a lot of work to be done, it is encouraging to know that Spanish companies are betting more and more on their digitization and on being competitive in an increasingly demanding and challenging market.”
