Parker Solar Probe: NASA probe passes coronal mass eruption

Die NASA erläutert: “Koronale Massenauswürfe bezeichnen gewaltige Eruptionen von Plasma und Energie aus der Korona der Sonne, die das Weltraumwetter bestimmen.” Die Stärke des koronalen Massenauswurfs störte die Sonde Parker Solar Probe aber herzlich wenig. Elegant durchflog sie den Tumult. Das ist nicht nur beeindruckend anzusehen, gleichzeitig liefert das Ereignis auch wichtige Erkenntnisse für die Forschung.

Parker bestätigt 20 Jahre alte Theorie

Laut NASA the flight of the probe confirmed a 20-year-old theory. This revolves around the interaction of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) with interplanetary dust. This is beneficial for predicting space weather. The results were recently published in the journal “The Astrophysical Journal”. Guillermo Stenborg, an astrophysicist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, and lead author of the study, said: “These interactions between CMEs and dust were theorized two decades ago, but were only observed with the Parker probe “How a CME acts like a vacuum cleaner, clearing the dust out of its path.” The latter is made up of tiny particles from asteroids, comets and planets.

Um die Wechselwirkungen zwischen dem interplanetaren Staub und der Form und Geschwindigkeit einer CME zu untersuchen, sind weitere Studien erforderlich. Mit den neu gewonnenen Erkenntnissen zu koronalen Massenauswürfen lässt sich unter Umständen eher vorhersagen “wie schnell sich CMEs von der Sonne zur Erde bewegen und so zu prognostizieren, wann der Planet ihre Auswirkungen zu spüren bekommen könnte.” Das Weltraumwetter birgt unter anderem das Risiko, Satelliten zu gefährden, Kommunikations- und NavigationsTechnologyn zu stören und Stromnetze auf der Erde auszuschalten.
