Nitrux is a distribution that already comes with all the necessary ingredients for gaming under Linux and for this reason also has a system kernel specially optimized for gaming and multimedia. The open operating system, which has its roots in Debian and Ubuntu, also offers its own desktop environment.

A particularly current fixed release for players

With Nitrux 2.6.0 (“ff”) one of the most up-to-date Linux distributions ever appeared, which, unlike a rolling release, which is constantly updated, follows a fixed release cycle. Also as one of the first “fixed” operating systems of this type, Nitrux version 2.6.0 relies on Linux 6.1 LTS. The Liquorix v6.1.0-2.1 operating system kernel, which has been optimized for multimedia and gaming workloads, is used here.

Especially for gamers, Nitrux 2.6.0 offers a very up-to-date platform based on the following components:

Nitrox 2.6.0 platform
  • Linux 6.1LTS
  • KDE Plasma 5.26.4
    • KDE Framework 5.101.0
    • KDE Gear 22.12.0
    • Qt 5.15.7
  • Mesa 3D 23.0

While the KDE Plasma ecosystem has been updated with the latest frameworks and applications, the Mesa 3D graphics stack, version 23.0 of which is essential for gaming on Linux, deserves a special mention.

The kernel optimizations that are particularly interesting for gamers are as follows:

  • Zen Interactive Tuning: Tunes the kernel for responsiveness at the cost of throughput and power usage.
  • PDS Process Scheduler: Fair process scheduler for gaming, multimedia, and real-time loads.
  • High Resolution Scheduling: 1000hz tick rate for precise low jitter task scheduling.
  • Preemptible tree-based hierarchical RCU: RCU implementation for real-time systems.
  • Hard Kernel Preemption: Most aggressive kernel preemption before requiring real-time patches. Guarantees responsive system under high intensity mixed workload scenarios.
  • Budget Fair Queue: Proper disk scheduler optimized for desktop usage, high throughput / low latency.
  • TCP BBR2 Congestion Control: Fast congestion control, maximizes throughput, guaranteeing higher speeds than Cubic.
  • Compressed Swap: Swap storage is compressed with LZ4 using zswap
  • Multi-generational LRU: Alternative LRU algorithm that performs better under high memory pressure and uptimes
  • Binary Builds For Popular Debian Distros: Binary builds are produced for Debian Stable, Testing, and Unstable. Ubuntu builds are available on the Liquorix PPA same day within hours of Debian releases going up.
  • Distribution kernel drop-in replacement: Proper distribution style configuration supporting broadest selection of hardware. Paravirtualization options enabled to reduce overhead under virtualization.

A dedicated desktop environment

In addition to the so-called Next Generation Desktop Shell, the NX Desktop based on the latest KDE Plasma 5.26.4, Nitrux 2.60 comes with all important software packages (also) for gamers in the latest version. In accordance with the principle “Debian + Plasma + Qt”, the desktop and the free GUI toolkit Qt in particular have been updated.

Gamers who prefer a Linux distribution with fixed releases and still want an up-to-date substructure for Steam, Wine and Proton are given the right operating system here.

The focus on gamers is also made clear by the fact that the developers provide appropriate information on the correct use of essential packages such as Mesa, Steam and current graphics drivers in the official release notes.

Always up to date

For example, an update to the Mesa API is performed using the following command:

Mesa 3D:

sudo apt install mesa-git && sudo apt upgrade -yy

The game distribution platform Steam is installed via Flatpak and the associated store Flathub:

Steam client:

flatpak install com.valvesoftware.Steam

Importing the latest proprietary Nvidia graphics driver is also correspondingly easy:

Nvidia Proprietary Drivers:

sudo apt install -yy nvidia-x11-config

However, the developers point out that the latest version of the NX desktop based on KDE Plasma and the free Wayland display server protocol work better with graphics solutions from AMD and Intel.

Current software packages from all areas

Nitrux 2.6.0 also comes with the latest software packages for all situations and can also access over 60,000 packages from Debian and its own repositories.

Mozilla Firefox 108.0.1 is also on board, as is Mozilla Thunderbird 102.6.1 and the current OBS Studio and Discord.

Nitrox 2.6.0 software
  • brave
  • blenders
  • OBS Studio
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Mozilla Thunderbird
  • VLC media player
  • LibreOffice
  • discord
  • Krita

Nitrux 2.6.0 is available for download

The system image Nitrux 2.6.0 (ISO), which is around 3.1 GB in size and optimized for AMD64, can be stored on a suitable USB storage medium with the help of a suitable tool such as Rufus or Ventoy and installed on an SSD or hard drive using the graphic installer Calamares.

The most frequent problems regarding time control

Avatar of Thomas Grimm

clock 3410034 1280

As indicated from Woffu, time control managementIn addition to being a legal necessity, it is one of the main headaches for HR managers. The company highlights the main difficulties when it comes to managing the presence and absence of workers and how to solve them.

Waste of time solving incidents

One of the main problems that HR managers encounter is the time invested in solving incidents caused by disconnected tools, which do not have the technology to integrate vacations and absences with the presence in the same tool.

Many companies manage absence requests by email, paper or Excel sheets, for example, which do not allow them to attach supporting documents. In this way, as they point out from Woffu “team leaders waste hours and hours searching for and requesting receipts, reviewing who is working and who is not available. This prevents them from focusing on valuable tasks.”

Non-digitized HR processes

In the same way, one of the obstacles in the management of time control is the lack of digitization. Since the Time Control Law does not specify whether it must be done with a tool designed for it, there are many companies that choose for continuing to register on paper or in Excel sheets. “Companies waste a lot of time by manually recording the hours worked and the reasons for absence, in addition to the fact that the margin of error is greater and the data obtained is not reliable”, They comment from Woffu.

In addition, in many companies, the tools used do not allow managing the signing of a hybrid work model or a work model only remotely. Therefore, by not having this digitization, the company lacks data and information that helps to understand its reality, such as the absenteeism rate, departments that telework the most, etc.

Lack of visibility of the days of absence and presence

Another of the common problems is that the company usually lacks visibility of the days of absence and presence of employees or between teams. This translates into a waste of time asking or searching emails or notifications for the availability of the rest of the team. Related to that lack of visibility is the fact that employees may believe that their overtime is not being recorded. This leads to disgruntled and distrustful employees.

Tools that do not meet the needs

It may happen that HR software has been hired, but when employees and managers use it to record the workday, or to request medical hours, the tool does not meet usability standards. Or it does not allow a real-time connection with visualization on any device. In this case, it is best to test the tool before entering into a deal. Make sure that it is user friendly and that it responds to the needs of both employees and HR managers. We must try to make the use of the labor registration tool as easy and bearable as possible, so it will be possible to ensure its daily use and full adoption by the workforce.

Time Control Law

Despite the fact that it has been more than four years since the implementation of the Control Law, it is still an aspect of business management that continues to generate controversy and controversy. In fact, according to data published by Grupo SPEC, half of the companies would not pass an inspection by the hourly register three years after the law. In fact, from September 2019 to May 2022, inspectors have detected a total of 3,299 violations in the registration of working hours throughout Spain and have imposed a total of 4.7 million euros in fines.
