A decision that was already announced in the past, and that is a good time to remember.

As of December 31, Facebook will stop supporting iOS 10 on WhatsApp. This means that iPhones still running this version of the operating system, unable to upgrade to a later version, will lose access to the app. A change that, in fact, not only affects the iPhone, since there are, in fact, 49 phone models that will no longer be able to use Zuckerberg’s messaging.

Leaving old systems behind in favor of novelties

And what are the iPhones that are still running iOS 10? Are two: iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C. Both presented in September 2012, that is, a little over 10 years ago. Which, in large part, justifies that they no longer receive news from Facebook, although it must be taken into account anyway.

It is not, by far, ideal, but in these iPhones it must be able continue accessing WhatsApp through the web. It is true that the notification system is very different, but just as it is possible to access WhatsApp from the web on the Mac, this is a resource for those phones that, for whatever reason, cannot be replaced.

We don’t know exactly how many WhatsApp users will still be on an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c, but we do have some related numbers. A few months ago, according to Apple itself, of the total number of users who regularly access the App Store, 7% did it with iOS 13 or earlier. Information that undoubtedly has to be related to WhatsApp supporting iOS 12 and later.

Although the most critical of the Facebook platforms were quick to say in their day that no matter how much WhatsApp leaves old operating systems behind, the news that arrives is meager, it is true that being able to develop only for the newest systems is a great advantage. An advantage that translates into better security, more processing capacity, memory management and other variables that allow developers to take advantage of them, offer us more useful applications. We’ll see if Facebook, while we’re still waiting for their apps to reach the iPad, have improvements in mind.

Since its release, Apple hasn’t revamped the Magic Mouse (other than adding a built-in battery in place of the battery compartment in a revision), and seems to have no interest in doing so. It is a mouse that enters through the eyes and attracts attention due to its design, since there is no other like it. But It is not very practical for many users (or comfortable). Yes, it allows you to perform gestures such as movement and has a range that is not bad, but it is not for everyone.

Apple would not have planned a Mac Studio M2 Ultra because of the new Mac Pro

Apple is due to launch a new Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra chip this year and that could mean there won’t be a new Mac Studio with the same chip, according to information from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The problem for Apple would be that a Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip and a Mac Pro with the same processor would duplicate each other. The interest in taking a Mac Pro would be more than limited, especially if we are to believe the rumors that the machine will not be really modular. Apple would therefore prefer to set aside the Mac Studio and not renew it, at least for now.

It could therefore be that Apple is waiting for its M3 or M4 chips to offer a new version of the Mac Studio. Suffice to say that we will have to wait a little while. As a reminder, the existing computer was born a little less than a year ago now and is entitled to M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips.

Regarding the Mac Pro, Apple had initially planned an M2 Extreme chip, but the project was finally abandoned to focus on the M2 Ultra chip. The computer would keep the same design as the 2019 model with Intel processors. Users would not be able to change the RAM or graphics card (GPU) themselves. The release would take place in the spring, although the exact date is still uncertain.
