I have tried almost all the applications with which to replace Notes but only one has convinced me: Craft

Everyone has their secret tricks, and I have mine too: Notes is my Bible. I use it as a personal wiki. A few folders, the most important notes pinned to the top of the list, and all the information I may need at any given time, well structured and classified. Nothing to use it as forgotten post-its.

An example: I have a note called ‘Documentation’ with all the numbers of documents that I may need at some point, from my passport number and its issue and expiration date, to the CUPS of my energy distributor. In ‘Home’ I have everything related to my house, from which telephone number to call in case of each type of breakdown to a small inventory with the type of light bulb and color temperature in each room, in case one burns out, to know specifically which one should I buy. And so with a few more areas.

From the visual to the versatile

Once the presentations have been made, and contextualized the importance that a note management application has for me, let’s go with the facts. No third-party app has convinced me to replace Notes, Apple’s native option. A few years ago it was too basic, but at some point, I think iOS 8, it took a leap in quality and started to be much more usable.

Since then I have been trying Bear, Notion, Ulysses… none have convinced me. I only stayed with Ulysses to ease the use of Notes and transfer long writings to it, such as Infinite Loop scripts. But for that personal and professional wiki, where I am also adding the notes that I need to take on a day-to-day basis, none convinced me. Until I rediscovered Craft.

Craft made its appearance in 2020, right in the first months of the pandemic, and although I tried it at the time, I was not completely enthusiastic about it. She was pretty, but without further incentives to migrate. A few weeks ago I gave it another chance, and this time, with all the updates that have come since then… this time yes. This time I stayed with Craft.

First of all, on a visual level it represents a brutal qualitative leap compared to Notes or Ulysses. The notes can be made much more beautiful with just three clicks, it shows that it is an application that focuses on that component. And in fact they play that trick in their marketing.

A nothing camouflaged dart to Google Docs to boast of interface and easy customization on the Craft website.

At the functionality level it is difficult to miss something. It’s a polished and versatile app. It allows you to structure documents in a way that may have room for improvement, but it is definitely difficult to get more out of it. It stores the content locally, so we will not despair when we have to go to it in an area without coverage or where it is very low.

One example: the Craft template I use for every new Infinite Loop script.

Offering templates is another great point of Craft, although it can’t be compared to the impressive community and content that Notion has achieved in that regard.

Some of the templates that Craft offers from its own application.

And another of its fantastic utilities is Assistant, a recent addition that integrates artificial intelligence from OpenAI (those from GPT-3 and ChatGPT) to help us with our texts.

Assistant can:

  • Expand a text from an already given fragment
  • To create hashtags to use in social networks from a certain text
  • Write articles from a headline
  • Generate pros and cons from that text
  • make summaries
  • Translate to multiple languages
  • Soften or strengthen the tone

An example:

This feature has been left a bit less important after the public release of ChatGPT, which came just a few days after this Craft addition. Even so, it is still more than useful to have the integration.

the money

Craft is free for fairly basic use, with 1 GB of storage and a thousand blocks available. Each element (paragraph, title, table, image, etc) counts as a block, and a thousand is reached sooner than it seems as soon as one starts using Craft.

Craft has a free plan for basic use, but surely anyone who wants to use it intensively will have to check out to bypass its limits

It also limits Assistant queries, set at 100 per month. If this is not enough for you, Craft offers a Pro plan that increases the possibilities to 50 GB of storage and unlimited blocks, as well as 250 Assistant queries.

Craft is being sold as a price-reducing option when compared to other bundled options. For example, he talks about a pack of note applications like Evernote or Bear; of documents like Word; storage like Drobpox or Google Drive and web publishing like WordPress; which together would cost about 32 dollars a month, for the 5 that Craft costs.

Craft has this table on its website to present itself as a way to save money compared to other bundled apps. It is not a fair comparison, rather biased and partial.

It’s one way of looking at it, but being honest, it’s unrealistic: someone who considers using WordPress will hardly have enough with the web publishing modality that Craft offers. Same with the $9 Dropbox or Google Drive, which give you much more space than Craft’s 50GB.

In any case, it has served me well to have something more versatile, powerful and visual than Notes; and to also transcend Ulysses in the writing of longer texts.

This is Netflix’s plan to cut shared accounts: there is nothing to do

Account sharing on Netflix is about to end. In a couple of months it will be impossible. Sometimes, as a purely altruistic act, between friends or family we share Netflix accounts. You give the keys to your brother or colleague and simply enjoy series and movies while you, from your profile, do the same.

It does not matter if at the end of the month you settle accounts and pay it half. The key is in sharing. And Netflix doesn’t like that. They haven’t even talked about that they are going to activate the possibility of paying an extra or charging you more for sharing an accounta.

Netflix can block your account if it does not meet these requirements

Wednesday

Three techniques that will work together. Netflix will use IP information, device identifiers and account activity to detect if a customer shares their user account with another. If someone else logs in with the same username and password outside of the host IP’s usage range, the account will be locked for this second user —I don’t know will ban the account, at least that is what Netflix itself confirms—.

The information that has transpired leaves no room for doubt. First, Netflix will review the IP from which the content is played. In this way, a constant verification is carried out to verify which device plays which content. Tracking by IP will check when the same account is being used in two geographically separate locations.

Soon we will not be able to share a free Netflix account: these are the alternatives

The application itself will carry out a record in which it remembers the main WiFi network to which it is connected. This record will be kept for one month. In this way, if the user who owns the account wants to share it, you will have to do without it while another secondary user uses it; or vice versa, that the second user connects through the main WiFi.

Sharing Netflix Account

And although the company confirms that “If you are traveling or live between different places, you can continue enjoying Netflix”, according to the company’s own FAQ, it is not clear how. In fact, immediately afterwards we are reminded that “If you are going to be away from your primary location for an extended period of time, your device may not be able to play Netflix. But you can request a temporary access code to continue enjoying our content.”

At this point, it becomes clear that the user experience on our iPhones, iPads and Apple computers will be hamperedsince it requires additional steps, such as access through a temporary code.

A plan with visible fissures since many Spanish homes have dynamic IP routers —every reboot and even through an automated system, every 24 hours. And what about families with more than one home or in cases where the main user travels a lot but the person with whom they share it does not? Will Netflix consider the secondary user as the main one? Well, we can also go to its cheapest version, look for an alternative like Apple TV + or “rent” the service temporarily when it is not used.

(function() { window._JS_MODULES = window._JS_MODULES || {}; var headElement = document.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0]; if (_JS_MODULES.instagram) { var instagramScript = document.createElement(‘script’); instagramScript.src=”https://platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js”; instagramScript.async = true; instagramScript.defer = true; headElement.appendChild(instagramScript); } })();

If your iPhone battery drains too fast, check this setting and you will notice the difference

The arrival of iOS 16 has brought many new features to our iPhone (and even more if we count the news that comes in updates like iOS 16.3), but some of them have led to a more accelerated consumption of the battery. It also depends on the model and age of our iPhone, but it is not difficult to notice.

Looking at the comments that predominate on social networks, there is a feature that has attracted the most attention that may be responsible for ending up with less battery than normal on your iPhone. Let’s see how to disable it.

How to disable the haptic keyboard in iOS 16

The iPhone’s haptic keyboard can help us type with fewer typos, as it uses tactile feedback to tell us whether or not we’ve properly pressed a key. But Apple has already warned you: the price to pay is a higher consumption of the battery.

If you decide to deactivate it, just go to Settings from your iPhone and access ‘Sounds and vibrations’:

Then access ‘Keyboard response’:

ios 16 response keyboard vibration

Finally deactivate the ‘Vibration’ option that you will find:

response keyboard vibration ios 16 iphone apple

iOS 16.4 is just around the corner and will bring these seven new features to our iPhone

The option will remain available for you to reactivate whenever you want. This change may be more noticeable if your iPhone is already a few years old., and I don’t have if you have something modern like an iPhone 13 or an iPhone 14. As I always say, the good news is that Apple allows the user to decide whether or not to keep this option activated. Please note that if you are using iOS 15 or an earlier version of the system, this option will not be present.
