Despite all the advances in the image quality of Smart TVs, many users still have a problem that directly affects the experience when enjoying movies and television series at home. We are referring to when the level of dialogue and conversations is at a much lower level than the sound effects and music of the scenes.
Although this fact can arise due to various reasons regarding the configuration of our equipment, in most cases it is attributed to poor management of the multichannel to stereo conversion. However, if you usually use Kodi as your main media player, you can solve this bad experience in a couple of steps. In this article we show you how to do it.
Kodi, one of the essential apps for your Smart TV
At Xataka Smart Home we have spoken on several occasions about Kodi. This application It’s more than a video playersince it also allows us to expand the experience of our Smart TV through add-ons that we can download both from the official Kodi repository and from external media.
In this way, with Kodi it is very easy to play DTT channels via streaming, create a multimedia server to play the titles you have saved on your PC, play content from other streaming platforms, enjoy a multitude of additional video options and audio, and much more.
Among the audio options that Kodi presents, we also have the possibility of amplifying the sound of any video file very easily. To do this we will have to tinker with Kodi’s audio options.
How to increase the volume of dialogues on Kodi
To obtain greater sound in the dialogues, our mission in Kodi will be to enable an option that allows us to maintain the volume level of the original audio source while compressing its dynamic range. This will basically transform the multichannel sound to stereo, remixing the sound to stereo.
If you have hardware dedicated to multichannel audio enjoyment, such as a sound bar or a more advanced audio system, it may be more convenient for you to manage the audio options from the device itself. You can also do the same if you have the option to equalize the sound directly from your television’s operating system (raising the level of the center channel) or accessing a special mode for dialogue, if your television has one.
If you do not have this option, Kodi can be your salvation in this regard, since the sound options are very varied. So, if you want to increase the sound of the dialogues, you must go to the settings section in Kodi and in Settings > System > Sound enable the option “Stereo Remix”. If the option does not appear, check that you have the menu in “Expert” mode, something you can see in the lower right corner of the interface.
Once you have activated the remix, play any file and in the player’s settings click on “Audio settings” and raise the levels of “Remix” 6 or 7 points. If you wish, you can also amplify the sound from this same panel, raising the level of all audio channels.
Here what we are doing indirectly is an audio compression technique to transform the sound of the content we are playing into stereo. It is recommended to use this method only for those titles in which the dialogues and action scenes are especially unbalanced.
Kodi is one of the applications that allows you to do this. In addition, it is also one of the best players that you can install on your television with Android TV or Fire TV, so if you came only for its audio options, you will surely stay for everything else it offers.
