Google Play Movies is a Google service that allows you to buy or rent movies, series and programs TV to watch on Android devices, iOS, on the web and on some other compatible devices. And now, it is going to disappear from Android TV.
Google Play Movies passes away
A platform that already It has been showing signs of the transition to a better life for some time now.. First with the change in nomenclature when it was renamed Google TV on Android. Later, the previous movie section was eliminated in the operating system and they had left aside the purchase and rental section and now with the disappearance of the app from devices that mount Android TV.
The devices that run on Android TV were the same as Asterix or Obelix to the Romans: the last stronghold of Google Play Movies. AND now we know it’s going to disappearstarting January 17, 2024, at least if we take into account what they have announced from Google.
The search engine company has published a list of changes aimed at “simplifying the way you purchase new movies or access the movies and television shows you have purchased through Google.” And for that reason, the app will no longer be available on Android TV.
Google Play movies will not be able to download from the website if we use the browser on the computer, but not from the respective Google Play Store on the device with Android TV. And if it cannot be downloaded and no longer exists, the question arises as to what happens to the previously acquired content.
But don’t panic, since Google explains how to continue accessing the content we have purchased and downloaded previously and also the one we have rented and is still active.
The case of the televisions with Android TV, the purchased content can be accessed through the “Purchases” tab that has arrived on the screen, starting with the latest update. The content will appear in this location starting January 17, 2024. All the movies and series that we have purchased or rented will appear there.
In case of a set-top box with Android TVthe process is different and instead of the “Purchases” tab, we will have to enter the YouTube app in a specific section in which the content that we have purchased will appear.
Lastly and in the case of using the webthe content purchased in Play Movies can also be found in the YouTube app, also starting January 17.
