The Flash It was, without a doubt, one of the biggest failures of superhero cinema of 2023. Andy Muschietti’s film, starring Ezra Miller, failed with audiences and critics, and had a disastrous commercial performance. In addition, he delivered one of the most unprecedented moments with the cameo of George Clooney as an alternative version of Bruce Wayne. A clear nod to his interpretation of the playboy and superhero in batman and robin (1997).
But if you thought that that fleeting appearance by George Clooney was the starting point for his return to DC movies, you were wrong. The actor confirmed that his participation in the feature film it won’t lead to anything and ruled out any possibility of returning to wear the mantle of the Dark Knight.
The artist took his participation in Muschietti’s film with humor and opted for a peculiar comment to illustrate his lack of interest in returning to the movies as Batman. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonightthe cameo as Bruce Wayne appeared in the conversation and the filmmaker also chose to take it with humor.
Asked about how his appearance in The Flash, George Clooney responded sarcastically. “There was so much clamor for my return as Batman, as you know. […]. And I asked: ‘Where are my rubber nipples?’, and they said, ‘Couldn’t we do it without the rubber nipples?’ I said, ‘That’s not really my Batman, is it?'” he said.
Let us remember that batman and robin, by Joel Schumacher, received very harsh reviews. Among them, the costume design of the heroes played by Clooney himself and Chris O’Donnell, whose costumes included rubber nipples and plastic abs. A film that has also been ridiculed for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s performance as Mr. Freeze and other truly absurd elements, such as the “bat-credit card.”
George Clooney silences any rumors about his possible return as Batman
Asked if there was a possibility that DC Studios would convince him to return as Batman in the future, George Clooney did not hesitate. “I don’t think there are enough drugs in the world to make me come back”he said bluntly.
George Clooney’s smiling comments serve to silence any rumors of a possible return as Batman in future productions of the DC Extended Universe. Something that shouldn’t cause too many surprises, considering that James Gunn has made clear his plan to reboot the film franchise.
The leader of DC Studios also recently stated that he believes that “cameo porn” is one of the worst things in current superhero movies. And George Clooney’s participation as Bruce Wayne in The Flash can easily be included within such cataloguing.
With his sarcastic sayings, Clooney seems to be trying to show that he knows that Muschietti’s film was bad and that his appearance in it was meaningless. Now, it is unlikely that a Hollywood star of such caliber would accept a participation of this type knowing that she would be lambasted by the public and critics. Could she have done it just for the money? May be. What would have happened if the receipt of The Flash It was good? It is impossible to know.
Of course, George Clooney saying that “there are not enough drugs in the world” to make him return as Batman leaves something clear: the artist wants turn the page and not get burned again with one of the most infamous roles of his career.
