Fujitsu introduces quantumHPC hybrid computing, facilitating access to next-generation computing technologies

Hit on Fujitsu’s table as far as computing workload intermediation technology is concerned. The tech giant has just unveiled its new quantumHPC hybrid computing technology, which aims to optimize workload selection for customers.

It is an AI-based software capable of automatically selecting between different next-generation computing platforms and thus offering the most optimal solution to customer problems. All this, depending on parameters such as the calculation time, accuracy of calculations and costs.

For its operation, this new technology makes use of the potential of Fujitsu’s 39-qubit quantum simulator, considered the best in the world, as well as the FUJITSU PRIMEHPC FX 700 Supercomputer, powered by the same A64FX CPU that powers the Fugaku supercomputer. And combining and selecting the optimal calculation method for customers’ quantum chemical calculation problems.

This technology, which promises to set a precedent for future Technologys within the same field, allows users without specialized knowledge to use quantum simulators and HPC technology to offer solutions to real problems.

Developing a compute workload broker

This is not the only novelty that Fujitsu is working on, since it is also concentrating its efforts on the development of a computing workload broker.

A software technology that uses AI to automatically select the right resources from advanced computing Technologys and solutions, including large-scale cloud-based HPC, quantum computing, Digital Annealer, and quantum simulators to solve customers’ complex problems.

This compute workload broker is expected to support both automation and optimization of calculation processing of multiple hardware devices and the optimization of calculation distribution for different platforms. In addition, it will allow high-speed calculations and solutions according to the specific needs of customers.

In order to carry out this computing workload broker, Fujitsu has developed a hybrid quantum computing/HPC technology that solves quantum chemistry problems. The purpose is to allow clarification based on calculations of material properties used in drug discovery and the development of new materials.

Serving as a precursor to the compute workload broker, the new technology enables high-precision calculations at high speed by automatically combining and optimal two types of computers: a quantum simulator and an HPC.

The company has also highlighted that in the medium and long term it will continue to verify the effectiveness of this technology in order to continue developing it in order to establish a new computing workload brokering technology in the field of quantum chemical calculations by 2023.

It will also continue to develop computer platforms that can be used by anyone without the need for specialized knowledge, by adding services to Fujitsu Computing as a Service, Fujitsu’s portfolio of services to offer customers access to world-leading computing Technologys through the public cloud.

Microsoft Extends ESU Support for Windows Server 2008 and R2

When an operating system ends its life cycle, Microsoft usually considers the possibility of offering extended support, which usually ends up being paid, or may be subject to some type of special condition. The latter is what has happened with Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2, two operating systems that have ended their life cycle and are no longer supported in 2020.

The thing is that Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 still have a significant user baseand for this reason Microsoft has decided an additional year of support of the ESU type, acronym for “extended security updates”. This is good news for companies that still use the operating system, but it has one important condition, and that is that it will only be available to those who are Microsoft Azure customers.

This extended period of security updates will be active until January 9, 2024. If you are wondering if this will be a free program, I can tell you that it is not, and that Microsoft will bill it as it normally does with extended support programs.
