Have you been given an iPhone this Christmas? !! Congratulations!! We assume that you must be testing all its functions, especially if it is the first iPhone you have. It is not for less: its integration with iOS and its services give for days and days of tests.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for applications with which you can make your first steps, we can give you a hand. Here you have a list with several applications that will help you a lot in your first days with the iPhone. If you adapt to them, your day to day will change.

The best applications to get off to a good start on iOS

  • Notes is the app that I almost always advise my clients to use. All kinds of data can be stored in it, building a hierarchy of folders that is perfectly synchronized in iCloud.
  • Things It is what I consider to be the best and most careful task manager on iOS. If your New Year’s resolution is to organize yourself better, this program can help you a lot. You have it for 11.99 euros in the App Store.
  • Is another of your resolutions for 2023 to stay away from social networks? You might be interested in trying Mastodon. This alternative to Twitter is decentralized, has no ads, and is gaining hundreds of thousands of users due to the latest Elon Musk Twitter controversies. It’s nice to walk through a network whose interface is not designed to become an addict. Free on the App Store.
  • If you want to learn a new language, Duolingo can turn your iPhone into a teacher that fits in your pocket. It contains lessons for several languages in Spanish, both in text and in voice. Completely free on the App Store.

  • CapCut is a video editor for those who don’t understand how video editors work and have rather casual needs. With it you can mount home movies without leaving your iPhone, and you have it for free in the App Store.
  • If you live in Spain, My Citizen Folder is an application that you have to install almost necessarily. With it you can see summarized all your data and procedures with the government, in addition to consulting the next appointments such as the renewal of the DNI. You have it for free in the App Store.
  • I do not recommend Telegram for being an instant messaging application: I do it because it is also a place to find information channels and bots that are capable of replacing other applications. There are those who follow the news via Telegram, and it is not for less. Free on the App Store, although some extras require a subscription.
  • VLC Media Player it is a swiss army knife for videos on our iPhone. Wherever you have them, you can always have at hand and play the videos you want on your phone without having to worry about the format of the videos.
battle for polytopia app store

  • Not everything will be tasks and efforts: The Battle for Polytopia is an excellent strategy game that you can have on your iPhone. A kind of Age of Empires in turns in which your objective is to conquer the entire map and dominate the world. Free in the App Store, although to enjoy all its content you have to go through some integrated purchases.
  • Another game that may interest you is Vampire Survivors, a bullet hell in which your goal is to survive as long as you can in a hell of wave after wave of enemies. Free on the App Store, few games of this quality come without a price tag.
  • If you ultimately prefer a more relaxed hobby, you can opt for Dilemo. It is a question and answer game in Spanish, great to pass the time on your travels without falling into monetized games. Free on the App Store.

Michael Bennet, a Democratic US Senator from Colorado, is calling on Apple and Google to ban the TikTok app from the App Store and Play Store respectively. He cites national security reasons.

Banned for TikTok?

The TikTok social network is controlled by the Chinese group ByteDance and it has already been accused of collecting user data and then sharing it with the Chinese government. The company has always denied these accusations, but doubts remain among some politicians, especially in the United States.

So here is US Senator Michael Bennet who wrote a letter to Tim Cook (Apple boss) and Sundar Pichai (Google boss) asking them to ban TikTok, saying that no company subject to the “The dictates of the Chinese Communist Party should not have the power to accumulate so much data on the American people or provide content to nearly a third of our population”. He writes :

TikTok’s vast influence and aggressive data collection pose a specific threat to US national security because of its parent company’s obligations under Chinese law. Article 7 of China’s National Intelligence Law decrees that any organization or citizen must support, assist and cooperate with state intelligence work. Article 14 gives Chinese state security agencies the power to demand cooperation from companies like ByteDance, while Articles 16 and 17 allow intelligence officers to access relevant materials and files and use its communication tools and facilities.

He goes on to cite a June 2022 article revealing that TikTok employees had access to US user data between September 2021 and January 2022. “Everything is seen in China”had indicated an employee of the social network.

In view of the situation, the senator concludes his letter by stating: “Given these serious and growing concerns, I urge you to immediately remove TikTok from your respective app stores”.

The case of the voluntary slowing down of iPhone by Apple (battery gate), which, a few years ago, had earned the Cupertino company several strap lifts from international regulators, is bouncing back once again in South Korea. Against all expectations, the South Korean justice has indeed rejected a class action that pointed to the voluntary clamping of the iPhone in order, according to Apple, to save battery power and avoid an unexpected shutdown of the device. The proceedings initiated in court also argued that this restraint was a form of planned obsolescence whose objective was to encourage the purchase of a new iPhone.

Apple therefore escapes a new trial and possible compensation. The plaintiffs claimed no less than 1.64 million dollars in damages, an amount which would have been to be distributed among 9,800 people (owners or ex-owners of iPhone). Admittedly, the battery gate All the same, it dates back to 2017 – the year in which an iOS update reduced the performance of the iPhone’s processor to avoid unexpected shutdowns – but for those concerned, this does not change much.
