We knew it would come. And we also knew some of its characteristics. But it was not until this Thursday that the German brand completely removed the veil of the expected Electric Porsche Macanrevealing all its ins and outs and, of course, the commercial offer.
This vehicle joins the Porsche Taycan, the first and, until now, only electric car of the brand. The Macan also replaces the iconic combustion model, which will disappear from the market in the coming months to make room for this new proposal.
An important factor is that the electric Porsche Macan has been developed from the ground up to embrace this type of motorization. That is to say: it is not a combustion vehicle adapted to electric. This approach denotes Porsche’s confidence in electrical solutions and also allows optimization of both production and the design of the vehicle itself to obtain better results, both economically and on the road.
An electric vehicle designed from scratch
The vehicle is based on the PPE platform of the Volkswagen group (Premium Platform Electric), designed for high-end electric cars, and different from the J1 used in the Taycan. This same platform will also be used in the Audi A6 e-tron and the Audi Q6 e-tron, which will hit the market in the coming months.
The electric Porsche Macan has a battery of 100 gross kWh which promises more than 600 km of autonomy. It also comes with an 800 volt architecture and a fast charging system (direct current) of up to 270 kW of power which promises to go from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes. If the charging station does not support the 800-volt architecture, the maximum charging power drops to 135 kW (half). In alternating current, on the other hand, the figure drops to 11 kW.
The electric Porsche Macan, on the other hand, ride shock absorbers with PASM technology (Porsche Active Suspension Management)as well as a rear axle steering optionally, two technologies that promise to improve the comfort and maneuverability of the vehicle in adverse situations.
The electric Porsche Macan is full of screens
The interior of the electric Porsche Macan is dominated by screens. The only exception is the climate control, for which a special button panel has been reserved at the bottom of the center console. Everything else, however, is digital: from the instrument panel to the 12.6-inch central screen.
The brand also mounts a third 10.9-inch panel in front of the co-pilot seat, from which various actions can be performed such as controlling navigation or music. And, if this proposal were not enough, a heads-up display in front of the driver.
On the outside, the electric Porsche Macan features a familiar design but, at the same time, different from that of other generations. Above all, the front and rear optics stand out, which inherit part of the Taycan’s personality. The differences in the air intakes are also obvious, whose position and design varies as they do not have to cool a combustion engine.
The tires, on the other hand, They can be up to 22 inches. And a detail that stands out is that the windows do not have a frame around them, as is the case in Tesla vehicles.
The trunk, on the other hand, has a capacity of 540 liters to which 84 liters of the front trunk are addedsignificantly surpassing the previous models of the German brand.
Two versions ranging from 85,382 euros to 116,914 euros
Porsche, at least initially, plans two different versions of the electric Macan. Both exceed 600 km of autonomy and offer four-wheel drive thanks to two motors, located on each axle.
The main differences between both versions of the electric Porsche Macan are found in the acceleration capacity, top speed and maximum torque, in addition to the price, obviously.
