E-commerce continues its upward trend and already accounts for 19.9% of the total purchases that consumers make in the Spanish market. Worldwide, it already accounts for 19.7% of online sales.
According to data from a recent study published by the consulting firm eMarketer, e-commerce sales they will continue to grow this year, going from 19.7% of all world sales in 2022 to 20.8% this 2023. An evolution that will continue to advance in the coming years until reaching 24% in 2026.
In Spain, this percentage already reaches 19.9%, with the forecast that this percentage will continue to grow in the coming years.
E-commerce worldwide billed 5.4 billion euros in 2022
Globally, e-commerce billed almost 5,400 million euros last year, with an eye on this figure reaching 6,000 million euros this year and 7,650 million in 2026. A trend very similar to that experienced by the market Spanish before the constant increase of online shopping.
E-commerce continues to rise
As can be seen from the INE data, the National Institute of Statistics, in 15 years, the activity of the e-commerce in Spain it has gone from 9.6% in 2008 to 19.9% today. Consequently, one of every five purchases that users make in our country is made over the Internet.

The consumer profile The person who buys the most over the Internet is a user between the ages of 35 and 44, with 5.5 million of the total. For their part, 5.4 million online users are consumers between the ages of 45 and 55. Young people between the ages of 16 and 24 make up the least number of users who buy online.
Likewise, not all segments have experienced similar growth, with the fashion sector being the one that has generated the greatest volume of sales, with 4,700 million euros.
Auxiliary services and financial intermediation, travel agencies and tour operators have followed as the ones that have garnered the most online sales over the past year.
