Announced a few weeks ago, the film The Mandalorian & Grogu will not arrive in theaters anytime soon. According to Bob Iger, the boss of Disney, the feature film will “probably” be released in 2026. It will precede the three Star Wars films programmed by Lucasfilm.
The Mandalorian and his sidekick Grogu helped breathe new life into the Star Wars saga. After occupying the small screen, the now emblematic duo will soon appear in cinemas. In early January, Lucasfilm revealed that production on the film The Mandalorian & Grogu was going to start in 2024.
After many years, the Star Wars saga will finally return to the cinema. The Mando film will precede the three other feature films scheduled by Disney, namely New Jedi Order, Dawn of the Jedi and Filoni’s film. It remains to be seen when it will be broadcast. The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to release in 2026
During a conference call with shareholders, Disney boss Bob Iger confirmed that The Mandalorian & Grogu would be the first film of the new salvo to be released, “probably in 2026”. As a reminder, Lucasfilm has already blocked three dates for its future feature films: May 20, 2026, December 16, 2026, December 17, 2027. We can therefore deduce that the film dedicated to the Mandalorian will be released on May 20, 2026. It However, we will have to wait for official confirmation to be sure.
After the announcement of the start of the film, it was rumored that season 4 of The Mandalorian was going to be abandoned in favor of the film, But given the distant release window of the feature film, the fourth act of the series should indeed be broadcast beforehand. In a recent interview, Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan) also emphasizes that filming for season 4 has not started “for the moment”. Which suggests that the project is still in the pipeline.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will be directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. However, it will not put an end to the MandoVerse, this task falling a priori to the future film supervised by Filoni; which should conclude the different narrative arcs of the derived series.
