Although it may seem like a completely harmless practice, Sending a photo of your ID is never a good idea. In fact, with a simple photograph, cybercriminals can impersonate your identity, as has happened to a person who now has a debt with the Tax Agency that he will have to face.
Obtaining a photograph or photocopy of your DNI is very simple. In fact, many times cybercriminals What they do is create fraudulent job offers whose sole aim is to obtain as many identity documents as possible with which to later carry out identity theft scams.

Among the different hypotheses that are evaluated is the one that dictates that a cybercriminal or a group of them has used the DNI to impersonate this person, registering your data in online betting houses where he has played until he made profits and has withdrawn them.
The person whose identity has been stolen has not seen a single euro of these profitsbut because the data that appears on the online gambling pages in which you have been registered is reliable, technically, the responsibility of assuming this debt with the Treasury is yours alone.
What can be done in these cases? What INCIBE has recommended is collect all possible evidence, report identity theftcontact the Risk Information Center of the Bank of Spain, request the right to be forgotten and report to the AEPD in case of improper use of data.
